The Phoenix Zoo’s ZooLights holiday tradition is fun for kids of all ages; visit the zoo at night, lit with millions of sparkly festive holiday lights, and you’ll make memories to last a lifetime.
Of course, you can’t come to this part of the world without doing a little hiking through the beautiful Sonoran Desert. You can hike here year-round, just take precautions and head out early during the hotter months. There are trails for all sorts of hikers, from easy, accessible hiking trails to more strenuous trails. Try Papago Park and Hole-in-the-Rock (a popular landmark), Camelback Mountain or South Mountain Park/Preserve. Hike the short Lookout Mountain Summit Trail or Pinnacle Peak for some breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Or saunter through the cacti and boulders to view amazing rock art from pre-Columbian artists on the easy Hieroglyphic Trail. Experienced hikers will love the quiet of the Pyramid Trail or the Siphon Draw to the Flatiron. There are dog-friendly trails, and designated rock climbing areas and more here.
