If your kids are old enough, kick things up a notch and go on a guided tour of the desert on ATVs. The kids will love it! They might also enjoy a horseback ride through the desert. McDonald’s Ranch offers a “full Western experience” with horseback rides, stagecoach rides, a petting zoo and more.
Kids of all ages will enjoy a trip to the nearby Phoenix Zoo, with over 400 different animals. Local area wildlife is represented as well as many endangered species from around the globe, including coyotes and bobcats, Sonoran pronghorns and Mexican gray wolves. Other favorites include parrots and toucans, zebras, African lions, orangutans, and jaguars.
If there are any train lovers in your gang, McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park has playgrounds, a model railroad exhibit, trains to ride, and a restored antique carousel.

Your entire family will enjoy these family activities in Scottsdale, like the interactive exhibits at the Musical Instrument Museum, as they learn about instruments from around the world. The Western Spirit Museum’s exhibits focus on Western and Native American art, artifacts and cultural treasures. You’ll wander through exhibits featuring saddles, spurs and sheriff stars, Kit Carson’s pistol and message pouch, Native American buffalo robes and gauntlets, and Hopi pottery.
