Things to Do

Combine your love of the desert with holiday fun at the Desert Botanical Garden’s Los Noches de Las Luminarias. For several nights during the holiday season, the garden’s trails are illuminated by over 8,000 hand-lit luminaries and live music.

And for the kids, the Phoenix Zoo’s holiday tradition is Zoo Lights, where millions of lights line the zoo’s paths. Visit the zoo at night, lit with millions of sparkly festive holiday lights, and you’ll make memories to last a lifetime.

Scottsdazzle is a month long holiday celebration in Old Town during December. Fifth Avenue is transformed into a winter wonderland complete with Sugar Plum Fairies and Nutcracker performances. There are plenty of events for both kids and adults, and most are free.

More Things to Do

The moderate winter temperatures are just right for hiking in the desert. Head for one of Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve’s desert trails where you can hike, run, bike, or jog through cacti forests, rocky desert terrain and mountains. Now is the time to try those longer, more demanding trails!

Billed as the “granddaddy of all car events,” the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction takes place every January. This auction brings collectors and spectators from around the world to Scottsdale to see the world’s finest collection of classic cars.

Who doesn’t love to watch beautiful prancing Arabian horses? Whether you come to buy or just look, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show is the place to see the best of these magnificent animals shine.

Known in golfing circles as “The Greatest Show on Grass,” The Waste Management Phoenix Open is held each February. The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale continues to provide its spectators with exciting golf year after year.
