Scottsdale Attractions
We know that when you vacation with your pet you want to do things with your pet. And there are plenty of dog-friendly activities in and around Scottsdale to keep you and your four-legged companion entertained and happy. Treat your dog to a visit to one of the local Dog Parks, or take them along for a hike.
Scottsdale has several parks for exercising your dog off-leash. The Chaparral Dog Park, the city’s most popular dog park has 3-acres of grass, water fountains and play features. Whether your dog is active or not so much, they’ll enjoy this park. Vista del Camino Dog Park offers shade trees, benches and water fountains for you and your dog’s enjoyment. There are other parks too, scattered throughout the city, and you can find more information on the parks and local park rules on the city’s webpage devoted to their dog parks.
If you have kids and a dog with you, there are several parks with activities for the whole family, including your pet. Park activities include lighted tennis courts, soccer fields and basketball courts, as well as playgrounds for the kids and grassed areas perfect for dogs. Some parks have picnic facilities too. Dogs must be leashed at all times in these parks.
If you are walking around downtown Scottsdale with your dog (leashed of course), try walking along the canal trails. The canals are part of the Arizona Canal Path. Walk through and over the breathtaking Soleri Bridge and Plaza, designed by Paolo Soleri – a pedestrian walkway, a solar calendar and gathering place along the Waterfront.
Looking for a more wilderness type of excursion with your dog? Then look no further than the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. With plenty of hiking trails on over 300,000 acres, there will be one just right for your fitness level and time available: The Lost Dog Trail is a short easy hike, while experienced hikers will want to hit the Sunrise Trail East for a steep, rocky trail with gorgeous expansive views of Sunrise Peak and the surrounding area. Visit the preserve’s website for more information. Remember, your dog must be leashed at all times, and you must clean up after him/her. And make sure to bring plenty of water for yourself and your pet – it will be hot on the trails and there won’t be much shade. If the temperature is over 90°, it is too hot for your dog to be out hiking and you both should head indoors.
Luckily, there are some indoor activities for both you and your dog. Take a stroll around Old Town Scottsdale, where many of the shops and boutiques welcome dogs. Or, take a nice wine tasting break at one of the dog-friendly wineries. Kierland Commons, and Scottsdale Quarters are a few of the shopping centers where you can stroll and shop with your dog. As with any mall, check with the individual shop or restaurant owner on their dog policies. At The Pavilion at Talking Stick, you can shop and dine (with or without your dog), or head to Petco for a doggie treat or two. If there is something you have planned, but can’t take your pet, head to the Scottsdale Doggie Suites (a boarding facility), also at the Pavilion.
And if your pet gets a little dirty while he’s out hiking with you, you can drop them off at one of the many doggie spas and pet watching facilities in the city.
