Consistently named one of the top ten restaurants in Old Town, Franco’s Italian Caffe in Scottsdale offers diners authentic Italian cuisine. This hidden gem is family owned and operated, and if you’re lucky, Franco (the owner) will be at the door to greet you and offer suggestions for your dining pleasure.

Popular

Franco’s is relatively small for its popularity, and reservations are suggested. This place can fill up fast, even on a weeknight. And there’s a reason it’s so popular – the food is great and stays true to its Italian roots. If you’ve ever been to northern Italy, then you know what to expect when you dine at Franco’s. The food is authentic, sophisticated and refined, while the atmosphere is a little more casual.

Menu

You’ll be able to find all your favorite Italian dishes at Franco’s Italian Caffe, one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Scottsdale AZ, and you may find a few new favorites too. Antipasti options include Baked Asparagus & Prosciutto, Prosciutto & Melon, and of course an Antipasto Platter (complete with tender tuna and beef carpaccio). Salad options include Curley Endive Gorgonzola (with pancetta and avocado) and Beet Arugula (a combination of onion, zucchini, string beans, beets and goat cheese).

Pasta options – and this is why you’ve come – include Ravioli, Fettuccine with Meat Sauce, Linguine & Clams, Capellini Tomato Basil, Spaghetti Salsa Cruda, and Fettuccine Tartufo. The pastas are all made in-house and you can taste the difference. There are plenty of house specialties for those not in the mood for pasta, and choices include Chicken Paillard, Petto Di Pollo Piccata, Filet Mignon All’Arrabiata, Bistecca Fiorentina, and a Veal Chop with Mushrooms.

And Franco hasn’t forgotten the best part of the meal – dessert! If you have room, the Mascarpone Cheesecake and Tiramisu are always popular choices, but the Merenghata (made from Franco’s grandmother’s recipe) is just luscious.

Several menu items are available for take-out, and you can view the entire menu online.

Vegan and gluten-free options are available, and many menu items are vegetarian friendly. The extensive wine list and knowledgeable staff make pairing a wine with your meal easy.

It only takes a few words to describe Talavera – amazing views and amazing food! The view of the surrounding mountains would be worth the trip even if the food wasn’t, but with Talavera you get both! Amazing views and amazing food. Can’t say it enough.

The View from Talavera

This upscale casual restaurant has a modern, yet old world feel. The décor in the main dining area is full of warm wood tones, and the warm browns, grays and punches of red provide a subtle background so you can concentrate on the food and the view.

The exterior wall is all glass and overlooks the covered patio with the mountains beyond. A linear fire pit runs along the outside of the glass wall for fun and warmth during chilly nights. Private indoor dining areas are available, complete with wrought iron accents and a heavier Spanish villa vibe. If the weather is nice (and it almost always is!), dine al fresco out on the patio under the rustic pergola. Watch the glorious desert sunset while enjoying your delicious meal.

Keeping with the Latin theme, they have musicians playing Flamenco guitar on Thursday nights. The Talavera restaurant is a great spot for a special night out, date night or for celebrating anything.

The studded heavy wood gates at the courtyard entry and the blue-tiled fountains lay the groundwork for the Spanish Mediterranean ambience. The interiors dark wood tones and a warm neutral color palette with touches of wrought iron continue the theme. Arches connect short thick columns perched on partial height walls dividing the dining room into smaller spaces.

The Camelback Mountains can be seen through the dining room windows as you enjoy your meal. Get closer to the mountains and dine on the patio, where fountains provide a gentle background noise. Or, sit at the tapas bar and watch your tapas being prepared on the wood-fired grille.

Leave the kids at home, it’s time for an adults-only dinner! Get all dressed up, call for a limo and get ready for an elegant night out. Mastro’s City Hall Steakhouse is a sophisticated, modern steakhouse.

Setting the Mood

Red ceilings, paneled walls and accents splash brightly throughout the restaurant and make the black and white dramatic décor more appealing. Glass Chihuly-like pendants add sparkle and interest, and the baby grand lends a bit of glamour to the bar area. Live music starts around 7pm, so make your reservations accordingly.

This really is a place for adults only. And this is really a “get all dressed up” kind of place; they do enforce a strict upscale dress code. That said, Mastro’s Steakhouse is perfect for a special celebration, date night, or important company dinner.

You can dine al fresco on the patio in front of the stacked stone fireplace, or inside at the bar, the main dining room, or reserve a private dining room. They can seat from 24 to over 75, and some rooms are available with flat screen TVs – just right for those important corporate dinners.

Steak and More at Mastro’s City Hall Steakhouse

Mastro’s Steakhouse is first and foremost a steakhouse. But, everything else is good too. Beef Carpaccio, Dungeness Crab Cocktail, and Oysters Rockefeller are just a few options from the wide selection of appetizer choices.

Their sushi dishes aren’t the usual restaurant sushi choices. Ahi Tuna Tostada, Hamachi with Crispy Onions, and a Jalapeno Tuna Sashimi are a few of the interesting offerings. As far as soups and salads, the French onion soup seems to be a customer favorite.

Choose from over twelve cuts of steaks, from the 8oz Petite Filet to the 33oz Chefs Cut Ribeye Chop. A few chicken and lamb dishes are offered for those who aren’t steak lovers. And there are several seafood options too, including Live Maine Lobster, Scottish Salmon Fillet and Chilean Sea Bass.

If you can, leave a little room for dessert. There are light dishes like the Fresh Seasonal Berries, gelato and sorbet, to slightly more decadent options like the Mastro’s Signature Warm Butter Cake (a customer favorite). Of course, you can just go right for the Johnnie Walker Flight Tray with Featured Dessert!
