MacDonald’s Ranch
April 29, 2019
Located in the beautiful Sonoran Desert in Scottsdale, Arizona, MacDonald’s Ranch offers a full western experience. This place has it all—from horseback riding in Scottsdale, stagecoach rides, hayrides, and a petting zoo to a reception/event location.
Adventures at the Ranch
Horseback and stagecoach rides are offered for private and group experiences, and there is also a lovely moonlight tour option for each. The guides will match the right horse to your riding experience, and they have pony rides for the kids, too. Even if you have never ridden before, or consider yourself a beginner, don’t worry; the terrain is gentle, and the scenery is gorgeous. Your guides will give you the history of the area and educate you on the flora and fauna while you ride. Book with a group for a relaxing ride. More experienced riders are recommended to book the private rides for a speedier outing.
Other options at the ranch include hayrides, cowboy cookouts, and a petting zoo. Their event facilities are perfect for family reunions, weddings and receptions, bachelorette rides, Bar Mitzvahs or birthday parties. If you love to photograph the desert or are looking for a “Wild West” adventure, the ranch’s staff can customize their services to fit your needs. They are open year-round, but rides and events do depend on the weather. Year-round events are scheduled at Macdonald’s Ranch, such as the Pumpkin Patch in October and the Sankt Martin Lantern Walk in November. It’s definitely one of the best places to go horseback riding in Scottsdale.
There are many other activities and attractions located near the ranch, including hot air balloon safaris, golf, nature trails and outdoor adventures, rafting, and for a bit of pampering after your ride, there are many spa locations. Two attractions less than five miles from the ranch and worth mentioning are the Arizona Fine Arts EXPO (an opportunity to meet artists in their studios and watch art being created before your eyes) and the Musical Instrument Museum (musical instrument museum, gallery, and theater space). Visit their websites for dates and information.
