Scottsdale Dog Lovers Journey

Scottsdale Dog Lovers Journey

April 29, 2019

With over 400 miles of trails, Scottsdale is a great place for dog lovers to vacation with their pets. Here are a few ideas to get your Scottsdale pet-friendly vacation started. Remember to keep an eye on your furry friend because it’s very easy to become dehydrated!

Day 1 – Pupcakes

Start your vacation out with a treat for both you and your furry friend. Pay a visit to Sprinkles for a little dessert; their cupcakes, ice cream, and cookies are just begging to be eaten. If you’re in a hurry, just pick up your dessert at the world’s first cookie/cupcake ATM! And, don’t forget to grab a few pupcakes for your dog. Each sugar-free cupcake is topped with yogurt frosting. YUM!

Day 3 – McDowell Sonoran Preserve

The McDowell Sonoran Preserve has over 200 miles of trails, is open from sunrise to sunset, and there are trails for all levels of fitness. Try the Lost Dog Wash Trail for a short, easy hike, or the Sunrise Trail East for a steeper, rocky trail. Your dog is welcome on any and all of the trails as long as they are kept leashed. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water for both you and your pet; there isn’t much shade on the desert trails.

Day 4 – Canal Trails

If you want to stay close to town, but still want to get some exercise for you and your dog, try walking along the Canal Trails, part of the Arizona Canal Path. Walk through and over the breathtaking Soleri Bridge and Plaza, designed by Paolo Soleri; it’s a pedestrian walkway, a solar calendar, and popular gathering space all in one. Your dog will need to be leashed at all times. Many of the businesses along the trail/canal welcome dogs—just ask before you head in.
