Scottsdale’s Museum of the West

Now that you’ve got your bases covered and found yourself the right luxury villa for your Scottsdale vacation, it’s time to explore this great city’s attractions. This being the heart of the American West, there is of course a museum to celebrate the western spirit. You’ll find it in the heart of Old Town, where you might pass the unassuming wooden structure with cacti plants surrounding it without giving it a second look. But don’t let that fool rustic look fool you; inside Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, there’s a huge collection about all 19 western states in the 35,000 square feet space. Arts and artifacts feature prominently, as well as information and profiles of every famous and infamous gunslinger in history. Make sure to check their gift shop for some western souvenirs to remind you of this unforgettable visit.

House of Broadcasting

If you ever wondered what the old black and white TV cameras looked like or how silent movies were shot, this is the place to answer all your questions and put those wonders to rest. The House of Broadcasting is a fascinating museum that houses memorabilia from movie history, original TV cameras, and radio equipment. And of course, you will find a great collection of wardrobes that were used in old-timey movies and period pieces that span the history of civilization. Photos of famous media anchors and movie stars adorn the walls of the museum along with bits of information and anecdotes about the early broadcasting years. It’s a fun place to spend the day learning about the times when radio stations used 14-minute vinyl discs to record hours-long shows. Admission is free, but you’re welcome to donate to the museum.

Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center

Now is the time to leave museums behind and head to the great outdoors. The Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center is the best place to take the whole family for a day out. This center has one mission: to rescue wild animals that are too weak or injured to fend for themselves. This includes abandoned animals that if left alone would starve to death. Here you can see different wild animals living in peace and safety. But that doesn’t mean that the animals will be held here till the end of their natural lives. The wild, after all, is where they belong. So after a period of rehabilitation, when possible the healthy animals are released back in their natural habitats. The sanctuary offers an opportunity for children to get to know these wild animals and learn about the importance of treating animals kindly.
